“May he leave behind a memorable trace in this world, not just in the memories of those who knew him!”

Struck by the loss of a child, the Charrière* family was still mourning when they heard this call. Rather than isolate themselves in their grief, they decided to set up a foundation to help underprivileged young people and thus perpetuate the memory of their son. This venture was important to the family, but how to go about it?

Such a course of action is as positive as it can be complicated. Through lack of time, perseverance or knowledge, it is often aborted or diluted in a multitude of haphazardous donations. “We then contacted wise, recommended by friends, to help us in focusing our resources on a project with a specific scope and whose impact we could evaluate” explained one of the family members.

The Charrière family decided. Assisted by wise in this first collaboration, the family provided support for more than 100 underprivileged young Vietnamese to receive professional training in the hospitality sector. «Young people who attend our school come from very poor families or orphaned. This 2-year training course offers them the real possibility of finding qualified work. Our school can now become a centre of reference» said Mrs. Vi, director of the Hoa Sua School. Such a program also represents an opportunity for Vietnam, which is determined to develop its tourism but sorely lacks suitably trained people.

wise's role
  • selection of a partner organisation based on criteria evoked by the Foundation board
  • strategic planning of the project and its resources over 2 1/2 years
  • ongoing monitoring of the project and of the committed resources and an annual report for the family and the Foundation

«It is essential for donors to be able to see, know and understand exactly who or what is benefiting from their donations, gestures or interventions. (...) The return is extraordinary. »
