Marc hesitated. Should his family business support victims of the Tsunami that had devastated the shores of the Indian Ocean last December?
Or should they wait and allocate funds to a less mediatised cause? Despite the temptation to donate funds immediately under the influence of emotion, Marc decided to wait and take his time in selecting the most appropriate project for the firm.
Wishing to be just as rigorous in philanthropy as in business, Marc sought professional advice to make an informed choice. He contacted wise, who after carefully enquiring into his desired approach, provided him with a portfolio of four projects that corresponded to his aspirations. After due reflection, he chose Aluna, a foundation providing aid to handicapped children in Latin America. Based on its achievements to date, Marc sensed that this foundation would be a sound partner. In addition Aluna appeared to have great future potential thanks to its director’s imagination and foresight.
Neither party has been disappointed. Marc financed a new range of medical care representing an investment of several hundreds of thousands of Swiss francs over three years. In return, he was regularly informed of the project’s progress and the results that achieved thanks to his donations. Pascal Affolter, Director of Aluna Foundation confirmed: « This support has enabled our organisation to position itself as the most comprehensive care centre in Colombia and to maintain its quality. It has strengthened our structure and extended our range of services to help a greater number of poor and handicapped children.
Some time later, Marc paid a visit to « his » project accompanied by his wife and daughter. He experienced strong emotion and pride upon seeing the obvious results that his support had made possible for these children at the other side of the world. “Giving in this way offers the satisfaction of providing optimal support for an organisation without burdening its functioning” concluded Marc. Pascal and Marc remain in regular contact today.
