Our client is a family that owns a group of companies active in Europe and Africa. The two first generations are deeply committed philanthropists who manage their giving through a family foundation established in 2008.

Client needs

The two older generations wanted to involve the younger generation – their children and grandchildren respectively – by giving them a chance to lead a philanthropic project of their own, within a predefined budget and time frame. WISE's mission was to provide a framework the younger generation could use to define the project’s focus, geographic area, and selection criteria. In addition to passing on philanthropic values, the aim was to provide insights on how the family works and exposure to methods of collective decision-making.

Impact of the project

The next generation successfully defined their objectives, focus area, and selection criteria. They also adopted a set of rules and values to guide their decision-making. In brief, they defined their philanthropic strategy. Their next step was to select a high-impact project to receive funding for a specific period.

The WISE team helped the third generation of our family take its first steps in philanthropy. Thanks to their expertise and understanding of family dynamics, they provided a clear framework for our children and grandchildren to start their philanthropic journey and guided them in selecting a high-impact project.

How WISE added value

Thanks to our extensive knowledge of the challenges and realities of both philanthropy and family dynamics, we are uniquely equipped to advise and support multi-generational philanthropy. In this case, we carefully selected projects that met the requirements of this group of young philanthropists and conducted due diligence visits to the beneficiary organizations to verify their suitability.
