JANUARY 2009 - Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker recently inaugurated the Fondation du Luxembourg to develop a philanthropy policy in his country. The project follows a joint study carried out by the Banque de Luxembourg, wise and FSG Social Impact Advisors.
An initial report was written in October 2007 by FSG Social Impact Advisors at the request of the Banque de Luxembourg. This set out the priorities for promoting philanthropy which were made public in April 2008 at a symposium attended by representatives from the State, the world of business and civil society.
The Prime Minister then undertook "to give Luxembourg a true policy on philanthropy", making the topic a national preoccupation. This has now been achieved, less than a year after making the promise. The Fondation du Luxembourg is active in developing a culture of giving, setting up funds and conducting its own projects.
wise was instrumental in helping the Banque du Luxembourg set up a state institution dedicated to philanthropy in record time. "Integrity, professionalism and infectious enthusiasm characterise the two founders of wise who form a complementary team. Thanks to their great capacity to listen, their ability to focus on the essentials, their selective and efficient network of relations, and their rigour at all times, we were able to set up a centre of expertise in philanthropy in twelve months" says Philippe Depoorter, Head of Philanthropy Services, at Banque de Luxembourg. A "Case Study: Promoting Philanthropy in Luxembourg" summarises the key points of this success.
