MAY 2009 - During a five day trip, wise allowed a young philanthropist to discover a project set up by CAMFED Tanzania. Aiming to improve access to education and offer opportunities for fund raising activities for women, this event allowed the visitor to be made aware of the impact of their action.
Active in both access to secondary education for disadvantaged young women as well as ensuring them with a revenue generating activity once their schooling is over. This operation led by CAMFED since 1992 allows women in the community to build a network in view of helping and supporting themselves and each other.
Upon his return with the young philanthropist, Martial Paris from wise confirmed the value of such a trip for the donor: “Firstly, the field trip allowed for a total immersion in a reality that is very far from one’s daily life: the heat, the noise, the jetlag as well as facing poverty. Further, the experience enabled the donor to see and feel a social reality beyond simple information found in reports or the media. Finally, the donor was made aware of an approach and rigor regarding the project evaluation thanks to the wise methodology".
Overall, the field trip enabled a project evolution evaluation as well as way of connecting the donor, the receiving organizations and the people receivers themselves in view of highlighting directly the impact of the donation but also to envisage its longer term development. Thereby, in Tanzania, 200 young women were able to finish their education and will then be supported to be part of the regional economic network.
This project is part of the 23 organisations supported today by clients working with wise; organizations which have benefited between 2005 and 2008 of some 7,5 million Swiss Francs. This trend is linear with wise’s growth with a further commitment of 4 million francs representing a 230% increase since 2007.
